"An unknown French writer visiting New York is kidnapped by a pair of tough guys who confuse his name with that of the famous Spanish painter, kicking off The Kidnapping of the Painter Miro, or The Butterfly Kite by the artist and poet Paul Hartal (The Brush and the Compass). The endearingly eccentric adventure story moves the reader from New York to Paris, Barcelona and Budapest, and from art to war to UFOs and cybernetics as it ponders the mystery of identity in an unpredictable world".
Publishers Weekly, New York

"The Kidnapping of the Painter Miro is nicely written, very interesting and the artwork by the author is fantastic adding a wonderful touch. There is also romance and humor. An enjoyable read".

The Brush and the Compass, also written by Paul Hartal
(Lanham: University Press of America, www.amazon.com),
an internationally acclaimed volume about a new culture of inclusive
wisdom in which art and science cross-fertilize each other. The book
is taught at universities in the US, Canada and overseas.

From REVIEWS:

"The Brush and the Compass is a thought-provoking work bridging
art and science by a rare generalist in an age of specialization." -
-John K. Grande, The Montreal Mirror

"An artist whose ideas, like his artwork, seems to span space and time,
Paul Hartal calls for the rise of a new inclusive form of culture in which
art should play a most prominent role." "-
-Clifford A. Pickover, Mazes for the Mind

"Hartal contracts the intuitive and the exact, tearing open the boundaries between
art and science. For his part, art is in practice a field to test and consummate the
union of emotion and intellect. His Lyrical Conceptualism strives to transcend the
narrow limits of compartmentalism, alloying the enduring ideal of beauty with other
human aspirations in order to overcome chaos and despair." --
Balint Szombathy , Uj Forras (New Source, Budapest).

"A wonderful book.I assign it to my students as a resource to explore connections
between art and math".--
Elena Marchisotto, Professor of Mathematics. California State University (Northbridge)

In Paul Hartal's vision, the heart of poetry is the poetry of the heart. Love is the most significant journey of life, he says, and its final destination: We come to this world through love in order to love. With an eloquent voice, the poet praises the towering power of love as a redeeming force through which human salvation and even immortality become possible. His poems range from the poignant and serene to the playful and humorous. They can be profoundly reflective and whimsically amusing. A poet as well as a painter, Hartal's oeuvre is both traditional and experimental that creates a unique bridge between literature and the visual arts.
